Post-Referendum Projects

Since May, following the passage of the $29,565,000 building referendum (Question #1), administration and the respective building leaders have been meeting with representatives from Bray Architects, Nexus Solutions (the District’s performance contractor), and Mike Murphy (the District’s owner representative) to advance these six building projects (4 elementary schools--Hawthorn Hills, G.D. Jones, Riverview, and Thomas Jefferson, and 2 high schools--Wausau East and Wausau West).

Also periodically attending these meetings are teachers, staff, and parents from the respective buildings who offer input and help inform the plans moving forward. Additionally, a focus group was held with members of the manufacturing industry on a high school manufacturing program for the next generation of students.

Referendum update at Board meeting

Final phase of debt was issued for the referendum projects. The District separated the $29,565,000 referendum debt into 2015 non-bank-qualified and 2016 bank-qualified debt issues. The most recent issue ($10 million) had a true interest cost of 2.71%, and the combined interest rate for the entire $29,565,000 referendum related debt is 3.06%. The combined interest rate of 3.06% is significantly less than the estimated 3.94% interest rate prior to the April 2015 referendum. The total interest cost over the 20-year term of the entire referendum debt is $4.2 million less than estimated AND $2.3 million less than if the debt were issued in one phase.
