Boundary Study Team

Preceding the April 2015 Referendum election, the Wausau School District Board of Education consistently communicated its desire to study and reexamine the elementary school attendance boundaries to address enrollment inequities while planning for short and long-term considerations. 

On September 14, 2015, the Board of Education approved hiring Martenson and Eisele, Inc., to facilitate a boundary study process. A Boundary Study Team will be created and convene on January 18, 2016February 2, 2016 (rescheduled to February 3 due to school cancellation); and February 15, 2016; with a summary report to be presented to the Board of Education on February 22, 2016. A Special Board Meeting will be held at 5:00 PM on February 25, 2016.

The Board President reported that elementary boundary adjustments were approved at the Special Board Meeting held prior to this Regular Board Meeting.

October 25, 2016: Education/Operations Committee to review elementary boundary adjustments
Committee members reviewed elementary boundary adjustments, along with updated student enrollment information from the official Third Friday in September data. 

Following review of the information presented, the Committee made a change to the G.D. Jones boundary line and recommended that the full Board approve elementary boundary adjustments as discussed.

June 27, 2016: Education/Operations Committee Meeting to discuss potential boundary changes/referendum options along with Stettin addition
Committee members continued discussions. No action was taken. At the next Education/Operations Committee meeting, Committee members will review option 5D; an alignment that does not include the northern portion of the Stettin area moving to Maine and Maine moving to Jefferson. It was the consensus of Committee members to run student enrollment numbers again when the new Third Friday in September enrollment information becomes available.

The Board continued discussions on boundary adjustments. It was requested that "Boundaries Options" also be noticed on the June 27th Education/Operations Committee meeting agenda.

Committee members continued discussions on the possibility of placing an addition onto Stettin. No action was taken. President Trollop plans to poll Committee members at their meeting in June to determine if an addition to Stettin should move forward.

The Board continued discussions and there was no action taken. It was requested that "Potential Referendum Discussion with Possible Action" be noticed on the May 23rd Education/Operations Committee meeting agenda.
