Students were placed in a specific family role for a one-month period and needed to figure out transportation, how to pay their monthly bills, feed their families, and earn an income or utilize their community resources. Following the event, students openly discussed their challenges, frustrations, and takeaways from the simulation.

Dan Mills from the Wausau Warming Center and Catholic Charities talked about available community services, the realistic value of the simulation, and ways that young people can assist with the local crisis.

West High DECA presented the Wausau Warming Center with 100 bus tickets, 60 pairs of socks, 50 winter hats, and 65 pairs of gloves.

An Action Team Grant from Thrivent Financial and West DECA provided funding for these donations.
