At our elementary schools, serving students in 4K through fifth grade or kindergarten through fifth grade, teachers recognize the interrelated nature of the subjects they teach. Students grasp learning concepts of mathematics through scientific exploration. Reading and writing are taught throughout the entire instructional program. Some of the best learning occurs when studies cross the lines between subjects. Programs that help our elementary students succeed include: Comprehensive Literacy; SAGE (Student Achievement Guarantee in Education); Breakthrough to Literacy; 6-Traits Writing; Wausau Area Leveled Literacy Intervention; Direct Instruction Interventions; environmental education at the Wausau School Forest; gifted and talented program; teaching specialists in art, music, and physical education; subject-specific specialists in science; as well as co-curricular and extracurricular offerings.
